Martinez will be channeling the character from her 2019 film, K-12. But Cry Baby has an entirely new appeal this 2023. As Martinez rebrands for her latest promotions, she launched her new persona during Lollapalooza in Argentina. Martinez is now an out-of-this-world character, complete with a prosthetic mask – she has four eyes, green hair, pink skin, and elongated ears. The face seems to come from a sci-fi film but also straight out of a fantasy novel. Fans already received a glimpse of this new character when Martinez posted a teaser video for her latest album, Portals, on Tiktok. The video showed her character hatching from an egg – signifying her music being reborn. The teaser garnered over a hundred million views across various social media platforms. Luckily, fans can experience this new persona up close through Martinez’s Portals Tour. The outing promotes her third studio effort, released last March 31. Portals follow Martinez’ highly-acclaimed studio albums, Cry Baby and K-12. Released in 2015, Cry Baby emerged three years after Martinez was eliminated from The Voice Season 3. The double-platinum-selling album made an immediate breakthrough and peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Top Alternative Albums chart.
In 2019, Martinez released her sophomore album, K-12. The album’s release was accompanied by a musical fantasy film of the same name.
