For the first time in 20 years, Mercyful Fate makes its phenomenal return to North America and will traverse across major cities as headlining acts. The band, composed of frontman King Diamond, guitarist Hank Shermann and Mike Wead, drummer Bjarne Holm, and bassist Joey Vera, released some of the most significant records in black metal history. Their legacy as the genre’s purveyor during the first wave helped establish a new generation of heavy metal artists. Together with Venom, Bathory, Celtic Frost, and Hellhammer, Mercyful Fate helped cement black metal as a significant branch of metal that would later influence other subgenres. Mercyful fate emerged in 1981 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The band has released seven highly-acclaimed albums, the most notable being their 1984 effort, Don’t Break the Oath. The album heavily influenced bands like Metallica, Testament, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, and Ghost. The album features fan-beloved tracks “A Dangerous Meeting” and “Desecration Of Souls,” which became the quintessential dark and evil heavy metal style.
