ABOUT THE MAINE

Consisting of lead vocalist, guitarist, and pianist John O'Callaghan, lead guitarist Jared Monaco, bass guitarist Garrett Nickelsen, drummer Patrick Kirch, and rhythm guitarist Kennedy Brock, The Maine was formed in 2007 in Temple, Arizona. Adam Simons is a touring band member who plays keys, rhythm and lead guitar as well as percussion and joined in 2018.

CAREER

2006-2007: Beginnings, Stay Up, Get Down and The Way We Talk

When one of their projects disbanded in 2006, friends and bandmates Garrett Nickelsen and Patrick Kirch decided to start auditioning members for their own project. The Maine was officially formed in January 2007 with singer John O'Callaghan and guitarists Alex Ross and Ryan Osterman joining the group. The band’s debut EP, Stay Up, Get Down, was released in May 2007. Not long after, Osterman and Ross left the group to be replaced by Kennedy Brock and Jared Monaco, respectively.

On the strength of its debut EP, the band was signed to Fearless Records and it released its second EP, The Way We Talk, in December 2007.

2008-2009: Can’t Stop Won’t Stop …And a Happy New Year

The band released its debut album, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, on July 8, 2008. The album hit the Top 40 on the Billboard 200 and the Top 10 on both the US Independent Albums and Digital Albums charts. That summer, they toured with  Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls, and they toured with We the Kings and The Academy Is... in the UK that fall.

That December, they released the holiday EP ...And a Happy New Year, featuring three new original tracks and a cover of the Wham!’s "Last Christmas".

In 2009, The Maine signed to Warner Bros. Records. February 2009 brought the Secret Valentine tour, which they headlined with We the Kings, as well as  The Cab, VersaEmerge, and There For Tomorrow. That summer, the band played the Vans Warped Tour.

2009-2011: Black and White

The band’s second studio album, Black and White, was released in July 2010, debuting at number 16 on the Billboard 200. The album also charted in the Top 10 of the US Digital Albums and Top Rock Albums charts and launched the singles "Inside of You" and "Growing Up". That November, the band embarked on the Harmony tour with Never Shout Never and had a canned food drive from fans. To thank those who got involved, both bands released a split EP titled Split - EP. That December, they released the short film "In Darkness and in Light" on iTunes. 2010 also saw the band embark on its first ever headline tour: An Evening with The Maine.

The Maine’s time on the road continued in 2011, taking them to the Philippines, Australia, Europe (including the UK), and North America. They toured with Never Shout Never, Augustana, Taking Back Sunday, and Bad Rabbits.

2011-2012: Pioneer

Preceded by the promotional singles "Don't Give Up on "Us"" and "Some Days", the band’s third studio album, Pioneer, was released on December 6, 2011 through independent label Action Theory Records.

A music video for the song "Misery" was released on February 16, 2012, followed by a collaborative cover of The Beatles' hit "With A Little Help From My Friends" recorded with tour-mates Lydia and Arkells on Spotify. In September 2012, the band re-released Pioneer with six extra tracks via Rude Records under the name Pioneer and the Good Love. In addition, they released the six previously unreleased tracks as a separate EP called The Good Love.

2013-2014: Forever Halloween and Imaginary Numbers

Forever Halloween, the band’s fourth studio album, was released on June 4, 2013, preceded by the singles "Happy" and "Love and Drugs", and alongside "These Four Words". They released a five-track acoustic EP called Imaginary Numbers that December, followed by a deluxe edition of Forever Halloween, released in June 2014, that featured five new tracks.

2015-2016: American Candy

"English Girls", the first single from The Maine’s fifth studio album, Hard Candy, was released in February 2015. The second single, "Miles Away", was released the following month and the album itself came out on March 31. On March 30, the band released "Same Suit, Different Tie" on SoundCloud and on the day of the release itself, they hosted "24 Hours of American Candy", where they live streamed their activities that day.

They toured the album the following spring and headlined the Vans Warped Tour in summer 2015. That December, they released Covers (Side A), followed by Covers (Side B) – two 3-4 track EPs of cover songs.

2017-2018: Lovely Little Lonely

In January 2017, "Bad Behavior" was released, followed by "Black Butterflies and Deja Vu" in March.

The following month, The Maine released their sixth studio album, Lovely Little Lonely, on their own label, 8123. The album reached number 31 on the Billboard 200, as well as number 4 on the US Top Rock Albums chart and at number 3 on the US Independent Albums chart. That fall, the band went on tour to promote the album.

To celebrate their 10th anniversary, the band held 8123 festival, held in their hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. It took place at the Crescent Ballroom where 3,000 fans attended the sold out festival.

2018-2021: You Are OK

On January 16, 2019, along with the release of the lead single, "Numb Without You", the band announced the title of its seventh studio album, You Are OK. The same week, the band performed headlining sets on January 18 and 19, 2019, at their own music festival, 8123 Fest to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop. They also created a new festival, Sad Summer Fest, which featured sets from Mayday Parade, We the Kings, and Just Friends. After Sad Summer Fest finished, the band embarked upon The Mirror tour.

2021-present: XOXO: From Love and Anxiety in Real Time

XOXO: From Love and Anxiety in Real Time was released on July 9, 2021. Two days previous, The Maine performed at The XOXO Experience in Tempe, a theater showcase that set the album's tracks to visuals. On July 8, they premiered the song "High Forever" on Alt Nation, on July 10 they orchestrated an XOXO pop-up shop on in Los Angeles, and the following day, also in Los Angeles, the band held a livestream event known as Face Towards the Sun. The album’s release day also coincided with the first date of 2021’s Sad Summer Fest.
